Turner Media Innovations Secures Fox to Sponsor Cartoon Network Comedy Block
Turner Media Innovations has signed up Twentieth Century Fox as sponsor of ‘Laughternoons', a weekday comedy block on Cartoon Network between 4pm and 5pm, in a deal negotiated with Vizeum.
The major Hollywood film studio has chosen its latest kids' theatrical release, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules, as sponsor of ‘Laughternoons' in order to mark the film's nationwide release today (Friday 27th May).
Based on the best-selling book by American author Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules is the film sequel to 2010's hit movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The "Wimpy Kid" books series has sold 42 million copies worldwide and is a number one best selling series in the UK.
In Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules, Greg Heffley (played by Zachary Gordon), is back as the kid who made "wimpy" cool. As he begins seventh grade, Gregg and his older brother - and chief tormentor - Rodrick (Devon Bostick) must deal with their parents' misguided efforts to have them bond.
‘Laughternoons' is a popular primetime comedy block on Cartoon Network which showcases the channel's funniest shows including Regular Show, Adventure Time, Angelo Rules and The Marvellous Misadventures of Flapjack.
Turner Media Innovations has made a website to accompany the campaign, which will include games called ‘Crank-up-the-Pranks' and ‘Choco-Splat-Prank', giving kids the chance to win a host of prizes. A nationwide poster campaign in 1000 schools will advertise the film and additionally promote the prankster games on www.cartoonnetwork.co.uk/wimpykid2.
