The Amazing World of Gumball continues winning streak at The Annies Awards
Amazing World of Gumball, the renowned debut series from Turner Broadcasting's London-based European development studio, has ridden to further awards glory, scooping a prestigious Annies Award for 'Best Animated Television Production - Children's'.
The 39th annual Annies Awards ceremony took place on Saturday 4th February at the UCLA Royce Hall in Los Angeles, and The Amazing World of Gumball beat off stiff competition in one of the most hotly contested categories, trumping Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Fan Boy and Chum Chum.
The Annies win represents a hat-trick of award ceremony wins since the series launched just nine months ago in May 2011. In June 2011, The Amazing World of Gumball scooped a feted 'Cristal Award' for Best Television Production at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The show went on to receive further accolade, winning two awards at the British Academy Children's Awards (Kids' BAFTA), for 'Best Animation' and 'Best Writer' in November 2011.
The Amazing World of Gumball's award wins at these three world-leading children's awards ceremonies, confirm that the series is gaining serious industry recognition and are a fantastic testament to the creative talent and production innovation behind the groundbreaking 2D, 3D and live action series.
Turner Broadcasting's London-based studio is headed up by Daniel Lennard, Vice President of Original Series & Development, who is responsible for the development of in-house and wholly-owned original series on Cartoon Network. Daniel is executive producer of The Amazing World of Gumball and has nurtured the series and its show creator Ben Bocquelet since its inception. A second series of The Amazing World of Gumball is currently in production.
The Amazing World of Gumball follows the misadventures of twelve-year-old Gumball and his unconventional family in the weird and wonderful town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball's school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.
Michael Carrington, Chief Content Officer, Turner Broadcasting says: "We are thrilled to bits and incredibly humbled by these fantastic award wins for The Amazing World of Gumball. Winning at this year's Annies Award really is the icing on the cake and an incredibly proud moment for Cartoon Network Europe and our production partners, Dandelion Productions, Boulder Media, and Studio Soi, who all worked tirelessly to make The Amazing World of Gumball the outstanding show it is."
